Questions from this subtopic
Each one with the model answer underneath.
- 1
What is personal data?
Model answer
Personal data is any information that can identify a living person. Examples include a name, address, email address, photo or location.
- 2
What does privacy mean for personal data?
Model answer
Privacy is a person's right to decide who can see and use information about them. Organisations that hold personal data must respect that right.
- 3
Who owns personal data?
Model answer
Ownership of personal data is disputed. The person it describes has legal rights over it, but the organisation that collects it usually controls how it is stored and used.
- 4
What is consent in data collection?
Model answer
Consent is a person freely agreeing to their data being collected and used for a stated purpose. Consent must be clear, and a person can withdraw it.
- 5
Why are long terms and conditions an ethical problem for consent?
Model answer
Few people read long terms and conditions before clicking to agree. Their consent may therefore not be truly informed.
- 6
What is misuse of personal data?
Model answer
Misuse is using personal data in a way the person did not agree to or would not expect. Selling data without permission is one example.
