Questions from this subtopic
Each one with the model answer underneath.
- 1
Why might a business need to recruit new employees?
Model answer
A business recruits when staff leave or retire, or when it expands. New jobs may also need skills that current staff lack.
- 2
What is the difference between internal and external recruitment?
Model answer
Internal recruitment fills a vacancy with someone who already works for the business. External recruitment brings in someone from outside, often through job websites or recruitment agencies.
- 3
What are the benefits and drawbacks of internal recruitment?
Model answer
Internal recruitment is quick and cheap, and promotion chances motivate staff. The business gains no new ideas and must then fill the employee's old job.
- 4
What are the benefits and drawbacks of external recruitment?
Model answer
External recruitment brings in new ideas and a wider choice of candidates. External recruitment is slower and more expensive, and newcomers need time to settle in.
- 5
What is job analysis?
Model answer
Job analysis is studying a vacancy to identify its tasks and the skills needed to do it. Job analysis is the first stage of recruitment.
- 6
What is a job description?
Model answer
A job description sets out the title, duties and responsibilities of a job. A job description also states who the post holder reports to.
