Questions from this subtopic
Each one with the model answer underneath.
- 1
What is positive correlation?
Model answer
When two variables move in the same direction, both increasing or both decreasing together.
- 2
What is negative correlation?
Model answer
When two variables move in opposite directions, one increasing as the other decreases.
- 3
How is the strength of a correlation determined?
Model answer
By how closely the data points cluster around a line of best fit; strong correlation shows points close to the line, weak correlation shows points widely scattered.
- 4
Why does correlation not prove causation?
Model answer
Two variables may be correlated without one causing the other; the relationship could be coincidental or influenced by a third factor.
- 5
What is a confidence interval?
Model answer
A range of values within which the true population value is likely to fall, expressed with a stated level of confidence.
- 6
How does changing the confidence level affect the width of a confidence interval?
Model answer
A higher confidence level produces a wider interval, while a lower confidence level produces a narrower interval.
