Questions from this subtopic
Each one with the model answer underneath.
- 1
What is the purpose of pulse raising in a warm-up?
Model answer
Pulse raising gradually increases heart rate and blood flow to the muscles. Light jogging and skipping are typical pulse raisers.
- 2
What are mobility exercises in a warm-up?
Model answer
Mobility exercises move the joints through their full range of movement. Arm circles and hip rotations are examples.
- 3
What part do stretches play in a warm-up?
Model answer
Stretches lengthen the muscles about to be used, so they are ready to work through their full range. A footballer might stretch the hamstrings, quadriceps and calves.
- 4
What are dynamic movements in a warm-up?
Model answer
Dynamic movements are active drills at rising speed, such as high knees, heel flicks and changes of direction. The drills prepare the body for the actions of the sport.
- 5
What is skill rehearsal in a warm-up?
Model answer
Skill rehearsal is practising the skills of the activity before it begins. A netball player might rehearse passing and shooting.
- 6
How does a warm-up affect body temperature?
Model answer
A warm-up raises body and muscle temperature. Warm muscles work more efficiently and are less likely to be strained.
