Questions from this subtopic
Each one with the model answer underneath.
- 1
What is feedback in sport?
Model answer
Feedback is information a performer receives about their performance. Feedback helps the performer know what to keep doing and what to change.
- 2
What is intrinsic feedback?
Model answer
Intrinsic feedback comes from within the performer, through the feel of the movement. A basketball player can feel whether a shot was released well.
- 3
What is extrinsic feedback?
Model answer
Extrinsic feedback comes from an outside source, such as a coach, teammate or video. A coach telling a sprinter their start was slow is extrinsic feedback.
- 4
Why do experienced performers rely more on intrinsic feedback?
Model answer
Experienced performers know what a good movement feels like. Experienced performers can correct themselves without being told.
- 5
Why do beginners need extrinsic feedback?
Model answer
Beginners do not yet know what a correct movement feels like. Beginners need someone else to tell them what went right or wrong.
- 6
What is knowledge of performance?
Model answer
Knowledge of performance is feedback about the quality of the technique. A coach explaining that a runner's arms were crossing their body is an example.
