Questions from this subtopic
Each one with the model answer underneath.
- 1
What is meant by recruitment?
Model answer
It is the process of attracting a field of suitable candidates to apply for a vacancy in a business.
- 2
Give three reasons a business needs to recruit.
Model answer
It recruits to replace employees who have left or retired, to staff an expansion of the business, and to bring in skills the existing workforce does not have.
- 3
What is a job description?
Model answer
It is a document setting out the title, purpose, duties and reporting lines of a post, describing the job rather than the person who will fill it.
- 4
What is a person specification?
Model answer
It is a document listing the qualifications, skills, experience and personal qualities a candidate needs, usually divided into essential and desirable requirements.
- 5
What is the difference between a job description and a person specification?
Model answer
The job description describes the work to be done, while the person specification describes the attributes the candidate must bring in order to do it.
- 6
Why does a person specification separate essential from desirable requirements?
Model answer
It lets the business reject applicants who cannot do the job at all, then rank the remainder fairly on the extras, which speeds up shortlisting and makes it defensible.
