What is a PARQ?
What kinds of question does a PARQ ask?
Questions from this subtopic
Each one with the model answer underneath.
- 1
What is a PARQ?
Model answer
A PARQ is a physical activity readiness questionnaire. A PARQ is completed before starting a training programme to check that exercise is safe.
- 2
What kinds of question does a PARQ ask?
Model answer
A PARQ asks about heart conditions, chest pain, dizziness and bone or joint problems. A PARQ also asks about blood pressure and any medication being taken.
- 3
What should happen if a person answers yes to a question on a PARQ?
Model answer
The person should see a doctor before starting to train. The training programme may then be changed to suit the condition.
- 4
How might a training programme be amended for someone whose PARQ shows a knee injury?
Model answer
Low-impact activities such as swimming or cycling could replace running. The intensity could be lowered and then increased gradually.
- 5
How can the principles of training be applied to prevent overuse injuries?
Model answer
Training loads should be increased gradually, with rest days built in. Overtraining puts repeated stress on the same tissues and causes overuse injuries.
- 6
How does following the rules of an activity help to prevent injury?
Model answer
Many rules exist to protect players, such as the ban on high tackles in rugby. Officials who enforce the rules reduce dangerous play.
