- 1
What is guidance in sport?
Model answer
Guidance is information given to a performer to help them learn or improve a skill. The four types are visual, verbal, manual and mechanical.
- 2
What is visual guidance?
Model answer
Visual guidance is information the performer can see. Demonstrations, videos and diagrams are all visual guidance.
- 3
Why is visual guidance useful for beginners?
Model answer
A demonstration lets a beginner build a mental picture of the whole skill. Beginners can copy what they see before they understand technical terms.
- 4
What are the disadvantages of visual guidance?
Model answer
A demonstration must be accurate or faults will be copied. Complex skills may be too fast or detailed to take in from watching.
- 5
What is verbal guidance?
Model answer
Verbal guidance is spoken instruction or explanation from a coach or teacher. Verbal guidance often goes with a demonstration.
- 6
Why does verbal guidance suit experienced performers?
Model answer
Experienced performers understand technical language and can act on detailed instructions. A coach can call verbal guidance from the touchline during a match.
