Questions from this subtopic
Each one with the model answer underneath.
- 1
What is feedback in sport?
Model answer
Feedback is information a performer receives about their performance. Feedback helps the performer correct errors and improve.
- 2
What is intrinsic feedback?
Model answer
Intrinsic feedback comes from within the performer. The performer feels through their muscles and joints whether a movement was correct.
- 3
Give an example of intrinsic feedback.
Model answer
A basketball player feels that the release of a shot was smooth. The player senses the shot is good before seeing the result.
- 4
Why is intrinsic feedback more useful to an experienced performer than to a beginner?
Model answer
An experienced performer knows what a correct movement feels like. A beginner lacks this feel and cannot yet tell good technique from bad.
- 5
What is extrinsic feedback?
Model answer
Extrinsic feedback comes from outside the performer. A coach, a team-mate, a video or a scoreboard can all provide it.
- 6
Why do beginners rely on extrinsic feedback?
Model answer
Beginners cannot yet judge their own technique from the feel of it. A coach can point out errors the beginner is unaware of.
