Performance profiles, improvements and evaluation
- 3 things to know
- A2 2
Overview
Building performance profiles, accumulating Code credits, prioritising improvements to energy, water and ecology, payback with a loft insulation calculation, evaluating measurement methods and the performance gap.
What you need to know
Answer each one before you reveal it.
How are Code credits accumulated into a rating?
Why must recommendations for improvement be prioritised?
Questions from this subtopic
Each one with the model answer underneath.
- 1
What is a building performance profile?
Model answer
A performance profile summarises how a building scores in each sustainability category. The profile shows strengths and the areas needing improvement.
- 2
How are Code credits accumulated into a rating?
Model answer
Credits earned in each category are weighted and added to give a total score. The total, together with the mandatory minimums, sets the Code level.
- 3
Why must recommendations for improvement be prioritised?
Model answer
Improvements differ in cost, disruption and benefit. A priority order puts the most cost-effective measures first.
- 4
Suggest improvements to raise the energy rating of an older house.
Model answer
Cavity wall and loft insulation, double or triple glazing and a heat pump or efficient boiler cut energy use. Solar panels can add on-site renewable generation.
- 5
Suggest improvements to reduce water use in an existing home.
Model answer
Aerated taps, low-flow showers and dual-flush toilets can be fitted easily. A water butt supplies garden water.
- 6
How can an existing building's ecology score be improved?
Model answer
Bird and bat boxes, native planting and a wildlife pond enhance habitats. A green roof adds habitat on the building itself.
