- 3 things to know
- A2 10
Overview
Collecting pulse, mass, BMI, blood pressure, temperature and peak flow with worked calculations, exercise tracking, fields, records, primary keys and queries, and the benefits, risks and law of health data.
What you need to know
Answer each one before you reveal it.
Which measurements are collected to monitor the health effects of an exercise programme?
A person is 1.75 m tall and has a mass of 70 kg. Calculate their BMI.
Questions from this subtopic
Each one with the model answer underneath.
- 1
Which measurements are collected to monitor the health effects of an exercise programme?
Model answer
Resting pulse rate, mass and BMI are recorded before and after the programme. Blood pressure, peak expiratory flow and body temperature are measured too, with height, age, gender and medical history.
- 2
A person is 1.75 m tall and has a mass of 70 kg. Calculate their BMI.
Model answer
The BMI is about 22.9 kg/m², within the healthy range. The working is 70 ÷ 1.75² = 22.9.
- 3
What are the adult BMI categories?
Model answer
A BMI under 18.5 is underweight and 18.5 to 24.9 is healthy. A BMI of 25 to 29.9 is overweight, and 30 or over is obese.
- 4
A resting pulse falls from 72 to 66 beats per minute over six weeks of exercise. What is the percentage fall?
Model answer
The resting pulse fell by about 8.3%. The working is (72 − 66) ÷ 72 × 100 = 8.3%.
- 5
How can technology record exercise data?
Model answer
A pedometer or phone counts steps, and a GPS watch records distance and speed. Many devices also estimate the calories burned.
- 6
Why must a simple exercise regime be matched to each individual?
Model answer
People differ in age, fitness and medical conditions. A regime that is too hard risks injury, while one that is too easy gives no benefit.

Every question in Enabling Technology, on a schedule.
Attempt a question from memory, write the correct version, then attempt it again. Levo records the jump between your first attempt and your last, and brings each question back on the day you are due to forget it.
