Testing and evaluating a prototype
- 3 things to know
- A2 2
Overview
Testing against the specification, user and performance tests, fair and repeatable testing, recording results, client feedback, conclusions, further development and batch production.
What you need to know
Answer each one before you reveal it.
What is testing against the specification?
What is a user test of a prototype?
Questions from this subtopic
Each one with the model answer underneath.
- 1
Why is a prototype tested?
Model answer
Testing shows whether the prototype meets the specification and the user's needs. Test results guide conclusions and further improvements.
- 2
What is testing against the specification?
Model answer
Each specification point is checked using an objective test or measurement. Each point is then recorded as met, partly met or not met.
- 3
What is a user test of a prototype?
Model answer
A user test is watching the intended users operate the prototype and recording their reactions. Users often reveal problems the designer did not expect.
- 4
What is a performance test?
Model answer
A performance test measures how well a product carries out its function under realistic conditions. Battery life, speed and load capacity are typical measurements.
- 5
Why should tests be fair and repeatable?
Model answer
A fair test changes one factor at a time and keeps conditions the same. A repeatable test gives confidence that the results are reliable.
- 6
How should test results be recorded?
Model answer
Results should be recorded in tables with units, and presented as graphs where trends matter. Photographs provide further evidence of each test.
