- 3 things to know
- Unit A2 1
Overview
Function of the cornea, function of the sclera and function of the pigment in the choroid layer.
What you need to know
Answer each one before you reveal it.
State the function of the cornea.
What is the pupil?
Questions from this subtopic
Each one with the model answer underneath.
- 1
What is the conjunctiva?
Model answer
The conjunctiva is the thin transparent membrane covering the front of the eye, which keeps the surface moist and protected.
- 2
State the function of the cornea.
Model answer
The transparent cornea refracts the light entering the eye and carries out most of the focusing.
- 3
What is the pupil?
Model answer
The pupil is the hole at the centre of the iris through which light passes into the eye.
- 4
Which muscles of the iris make the pupil smaller, and what do the others do at the same time?
Model answer
The circular muscles contract to constrict the pupil while the radial muscles relax.
- 5
Which muscles of the iris make the pupil larger?
Model answer
The radial muscles contract to dilate the pupil, while the circular muscles relax.
- 6
Why does the pupil constrict in bright light?
Model answer
Constriction reduces the amount of light entering the eye and so protects the retina from damage.
Other ways to work this
The same content, four other ways.
What is inside Levo
Six ways to work the same material.
Every question in Co-Ordination and Control, on a schedule.
Attempt a question from memory, write the correct version, then attempt it again. Levo records the jump between your first attempt and your last, and brings each question back on the day you are due to forget it.
