Questions from this subtopic

Each one with the model answer underneath.

  1. 1

What is meant by gene interaction?

    Model answer

The situation in which two or more different genes together determine one characteristic, so their alleles affect each other's expression.

  2. 2

    What is epistasis?

    Model answer

A form of gene interaction in which the alleles of one gene mask or modify the expression of the alleles of another gene.

  3. 3

    What is the epistatic gene?

    Model answer

The gene whose alleles do the masking.

  4. 4

    What is the hypostatic gene?

    Model answer

The gene whose expression is masked.

  5. 5

    What is recessive epistasis?

    Model answer

The masking occurs only when the epistatic gene is homozygous recessive.

  6. 6

    What is dominant epistasis?

    Model answer

The masking occurs whenever at least one dominant allele of the epistatic gene is present.
