Questions from this subtopic
Each one with the model answer underneath.
- 1
What is a geographical enquiry?
Model answer
An investigation that starts from a question about a place or a process and works through evidence to answer it.
- 2
What makes a good enquiry question?
Model answer
It fixes on one geographical idea, concerns a place that can actually be reached and measured, and can be settled with the data available.
- 3
What are the stages of an enquiry, in order?
Model answer
Set the question, plan the method, collect the data, present it, analyse it, reach a conclusion and evaluate the work.
- 4
Why is a hypothesis useful at the start of an investigation?
Model answer
It states an expected outcome that the data can then support or disprove, which settles what has to be measured.
- 5
What does writing descriptively mean?
Model answer
Setting out what the evidence shows, the pattern, the trend and the figures, without yet accounting for it.
- 6
What does writing analytically add to a description?
Model answer
It explains why the pattern is there, links pieces of evidence together and works out what they mean.
