Questions from this subtopic
Each one with the model answer underneath.
- 1
What is a disaster recovery plan?
Model answer
A disaster recovery plan sets out how a business will restore its IT systems and data after a major incident. The plan aims to resume work quickly with minimal data loss.
- 2
Why must a disaster recovery plan identify which files are backed up?
Model answer
Critical data such as client records, accounts and emails must be restored first. A list of files makes sure nothing essential is missed from the backup.
- 3
What does the timescale for backup mean in a disaster recovery plan?
Model answer
The timescale states how often each type of data is backed up, such as hourly or nightly. The frequency sets how much recent work could be lost.
- 4
What is the recovery point objective (RPO)?
Model answer
The RPO is the maximum amount of data, measured in time, that a business can afford to lose. An RPO of one hour needs backups at least every hour.
- 5
What is the recovery time objective (RTO)?
Model answer
The RTO is the target time within which systems must be restored after a disaster. A law firm facing court deadlines may need an RTO of a few hours.
- 6
Why should a backup be stored in a different location from the original data?
Model answer
A fire, flood or theft at the office could destroy the originals and an on-site backup together. An off-site or cloud copy survives a local disaster.
