Questions from this subtopic
Each one with the model answer underneath.
- 1
How does the World Health Organization define health?
Model answer
The World Health Organization defines health as a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being. Health is more than the absence of disease or infirmity.
- 2
What is meant by fitness?
Model answer
Fitness is the ability to meet the physical demands of the environment. A fit person copes with daily tasks and sport without undue fatigue.
- 3
Explain why a performer can be fit but not healthy.
Model answer
Fitness and health are separate qualities. An elite runner may have excellent aerobic fitness while suffering from an illness, an injury or depression.
- 4
How does poor health affect fitness?
Model answer
Illness or injury prevents a person from training normally. Fitness then declines, so poor health usually limits fitness.
- 5
What is the difference between physical activity and exercise?
Model answer
Physical activity is any movement of the body by skeletal muscle that uses energy. Exercise is a planned, structured and repeated form of activity aimed at improving fitness.
- 6
How much activity do the UK Chief Medical Officers' guidelines (2019) recommend for adults?
Model answer
Adults should do at least 150 minutes of moderate activity or 75 minutes of vigorous activity each week. Adults should also do muscle-strengthening activity on at least two days a week.
