Questions from this subtopic
Each one with the model answer underneath.
- 1
What is intra-faith communication in Islam?
Model answer
Intra-faith communication is dialogue between different groups within Islam, such as Sunni and Shi'a Muslims. The dialogue aims to reduce division and build understanding.
- 2
How can the Five Pillars provide a basis for dialogue between Sunni and Shi'a Muslims?
Model answer
Sunni and Shi'a Muslims share the same core acts of worship despite their differences. Common worship gives a starting point for dialogue between the two traditions.
- 3
How does ihram at Hajj support unity between Muslim groups?
Model answer
Sunni and Shi'a pilgrims of every nation wear the same ihram and perform Hajj together. Pilgrims often describe it as the clearest experience of one ummah.
- 4
What was the Amman Message?
Model answer
The Amman Message of 2004–2005 was agreed by hundreds of Muslim scholars from many countries. The Message recognised eight schools of law as fully Muslim: the four Sunni schools, the Ja'fari and Zaydi Shi'a schools, the Ibadi and the Zahiri.
- 5
What is consensus, or ijma, in Islam?
Model answer
Ijma is the agreement of Muslim scholars on a question of faith or law. A hadith says the ummah will never agree on an error.
- 6
What is uniformity, and do Muslims seek it?
Model answer
Uniformity means everyone believing and practising in exactly the same way. Most Muslims accept diversity of practice among the schools, while sharing core beliefs.
