Questions from this subtopic
Each one with the model answer underneath.
- 1
What is revelation in Judaism?
Model answer
Revelation is G-d making known the divine nature and will. Jews believe the greatest revelation was the giving of the Torah at Sinai.
- 2
How is G-d revealed through scripture?
Model answer
Jews believe the Torah records G-d's words and will. Orthodox Jews see every word as given by G-d, while Reform Jews see scripture as human responses to G-d.
- 3
How can meeting inspirational people reveal G-d?
Model answer
Holy and righteous people can show G-d's goodness through their lives. Many Jews speak of great rabbis, or of rescuers during the Holocaust, as revealing G-d's presence.
- 4
How do figures from Jewish history reveal G-d?
Model answer
Figures such as Abraham, Moses and the prophets encountered G-d and made G-d known to Israel. The stories of such figures show how G-d guides history.
- 5
How might G-d be revealed by acting in the world?
Model answer
Jews see G-d at work in events such as the Exodus. Some Jews also see G-d's hand in modern events, such as the survival of the Jewish people.
- 6
What is conscience, and how can it reveal G-d?
Model answer
Conscience is the inner sense of right and wrong. Many Jews see conscience as G-d's voice within, guiding people to keep the mitzvot.
