What is Eid-ul-Adha?
Model answer
Eid-ul-Adha is the festival of sacrifice, held on the tenth of Dhu al-Hijjah at the end of Hajj. Muslims all over the world celebrate it, not only pilgrims.
- 2
What is the origin of Eid-ul-Adha?
Model answer
Eid-ul-Adha remembers Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice his son Isma'il at Allah's command. Allah provided a ram to be sacrificed instead.
- 3
What does Surah 37:102–103 describe?
Model answer
Surah 37:102–103 tells how Ibrahim's son agreed to be sacrificed when told of his father's dream. The Qur'an does not name the son, but most Muslims identify him as Isma'il.
- 4
How do Muslims celebrate Eid-ul-Adha?
Model answer
Muslims attend special Eid prayers, wear their best clothes and visit family. Families who can afford it sacrifice an animal, called Qurbani.
- 5
How is the Qurbani meat shared?
Model answer
The meat is traditionally divided into three parts. One third is kept by the family, one third goes to friends and relatives, and one third goes to the poor.
- 6
What does Surah 2:196 teach?
Model answer
Surah 2:196 tells Muslims to complete Hajj and Umrah for Allah and to offer a sacrifice. A pilgrim who cannot afford an animal fasts three days on Hajj and seven at home.
