Questions from this subtopic
Each one with the model answer underneath.
- 1
Define the incarnation.
Model answer
The incarnation is the belief that God became human in Jesus Christ. Christians teach that Jesus was fully God and fully human at the same time.
- 2
Which verse of John's Gospel states the incarnation most directly?
Model answer
John 1:14 states that the Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. The verse means that God entered the world as a human being.
- 3
Why do Christians call Jesus the Son of God?
Model answer
Christians call Jesus the Son of God because they believe he shares God's own nature. The title does not mean God had a child in a human way.
- 4
What is the virgin birth?
Model answer
The virgin birth is the belief that Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of Mary. Luke 1:35 describes the angel's announcement to Mary.
- 5
Give one reason the incarnation matters to Christians.
Model answer
The incarnation shows that God understands human life from the inside. Christians also believe only a truly human and truly divine saviour could reconcile people to God.
- 6
Describe what happened at the crucifixion.
Model answer
Roman soldiers nailed Jesus to a cross outside Jerusalem and he died there. Christians remember the event every year on Good Friday.
