  1. 1

What happened when the paralysed man was brought to Jesus?

    Model answer

Four friends could not reach Jesus through the crowd, so they dug through the roof and lowered the man down. Jesus saw their faith and told the man his sins were forgiven.

  2. 2

Why did the teachers of the law object?

    Model answer

The scribes thought Jesus was blaspheming, because only God can forgive sins. Claiming that authority was treated as a claim about himself.

  3. 3

How did Jesus answer the charge of blasphemy?

    Model answer

Jesus asked which was easier, to forgive sins or to tell a paralysed man to walk. The healing followed, so that they would know the Son of Man had authority on earth to forgive sins.

  4. 4

Who was Jairus, and what did he ask?

    Model answer

Jairus was a synagogue leader whose twelve-year-old daughter was dying. Jairus begged Jesus to come and place his hands on her so she would live.

  5. 5

What did Jesus say when told the girl had died?

    Model answer

Jesus told Jairus not to be afraid but only to believe. Peter, James and John went with him to the house.

  6. 6

Describe the raising of Jairus' daughter.

    Model answer

Jesus said the child was not dead but asleep, and the mourners laughed at him. Jesus took her hand, said "Talitha koum", and the girl got up and walked.
