A sensory or corporeal vision is one apparently seen with the eyes as an external figure. Bernadette Soubirous at Lourdes in 1858 reported seeing a lady in a grotto.

Model answer
An intellectual vision imparts knowledge or awareness directly to the mind with no image at all. Teresa of Avila described sensing Christ beside her while seeing nothing.
- 4
How does an imaginative vision differ from a sensory one?
Model answer
An imaginative vision presents a picture within the mind rather than in the external world. Nothing is visible to anyone else present.
- 5
Give an example of a vision received in a dream.

Jacob dreams of a ladder set up between earth and heaven in Genesis 28. Joseph receives guidance in dreams in the opening chapters of Matthew's Gospel.
