Questions from this subtopic

Each one with the model answer underneath.

  1. 1

What is the difference between an aim and an objective for an event?

    Model answer

An aim is the broad purpose of the event, such as increasing activity among teenagers. Objectives are the specific, measurable steps that achieve the aim.

  2. 2

Why should an event team set SMARTER targets?

    Model answer

SMARTER targets are specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, time-bound, exciting and recorded. A target that passes all seven tests can be checked against evidence after the event.

  3. 3

Give an example of a SMARTER objective for a charity fun run.

    Model answer

An example is to recruit 60 runners and raise £600 by the event date of 20 May. Results will be reviewed at the team's debrief.

  4. 4

Why must event targets be measurable?

    Model answer

A measurable target, such as 60 participants, shows clearly whether it was met. A vague target cannot be judged.

  5. 5

What is the difference between short-term and long-term goals for an event group?

    Model answer

Short-term goals are tasks completed within days or weeks, such as booking the venue. Long-term goals cover the whole project, such as holding a successful event.

  6. 6

Why should goals be achievable for the group?

    Model answer

Unachievable goals demotivate the team and lead to failure. Achievable goals build confidence and keep the plan realistic.
