How should free weights be used and stored safely?
How should a treadmill be used safely?
Questions from this subtopic
Each one with the model answer underneath.
- 1
How should equipment be selected for a training session?
Model answer
Equipment should suit the activity and the participants, and meet recognised safety standards. Adjustable equipment allows a correct fit for each user.
- 2
How should free weights be used and stored safely?
Model answer
Collars must secure the plates on every bar, and weights should be returned to the racks after use. Weights left on the floor are a trip hazard.
- 3
How should a treadmill be used safely?
Model answer
The user should attach the safety key and straddle the belt while it starts slowly. The emergency stop must be within easy reach.
- 4
Why should mats and handles be cleaned after each use?
Model answer
Sweat on mats and handles spreads bacteria and skin infections. Clean equipment also stays safer and lasts longer.
- 5
Why must testing equipment such as a dynamometer or stopwatch be checked before use?
Model answer
Faulty or uncalibrated equipment gives inaccurate results. A dynamometer that reads high makes a performer appear stronger than they are.
- 6
What should a performer wear for an outdoor training session in winter?
Model answer
Several thin layers trap warm air and can be removed as the body warms up. A hat, gloves and reflective clothing add warmth and visibility.
