Define barzakh.
Questions from this subtopic
Each one with the model answer underneath.
- 1
Define akhirah.
Model answer
Akhirah is the hereafter, the life to come after death, and belief in it is one of the articles of Muslim faith and a foundation of Muslim ethics.
- 2
How does the Qur'an describe the purpose of this life?
Model answer
Surah 67 says that God created death and life to test which of His creatures is best in deed, so this world is understood as a period of examination rather than as an end in itself.
- 3
Define barzakh.
Model answer
Barzakh is the barrier or interval between death and the resurrection, in which the dead remain until the trumpet is sounded, and Muslims hold that the soul already experiences something of what awaits it there.
- 4
What begins the Day of Judgement?
Model answer
The blast of the trumpet begins it, and the Qur'an describes a second blast at which all who are in the heavens and the earth rise and stand looking on.
- 5
What does the Qur'an say about bodily resurrection?
Model answer
The Qur'an answers those who ask whether God will reassemble their bones by saying that He is able to restore even the tips of their fingers, so Muslims hold that resurrection is bodily and not merely spiritual.
- 6
What is the book of deeds?
Model answer
The book of deeds is the record of a person's life which the Qur'an says will be given into the right hand of the successful and behind the back or into the left hand of the lost, and which will be read out with nothing omitted.
