What CCEA A-Level Government and Politics covers

CCEA A-Level Government and Politics (subject code 4830, qualification number 601/8375/5) is the Northern Ireland board's specification, first taught from September 2016. It is four units, two at AS and two at A2, and it is the only A level that makes the government of Northern Ireland a subject in its own right rather than a devolution footnote. AS 1 studies the Good Friday Agreement, the Assembly, the Executive Committee and the parties since 1998. AS 2 studies the British political process — Parliament and the Executive — with a choice between the judiciary and pressure groups. Both A2 units are a choice: a comparative study of the United States or of the Republic of Ireland against the United Kingdom, and then either Political Power or Political Ideas, the second of which sets Mill, Burke and Marx alongside liberalism, conservatism and socialism.
