Each one with the model answer underneath.
- 1
What is meant by society?
Model answer
Society is a group of people living together in an ordered community. Members share customs, laws, institutions and ways of behaving.
- 2
Define socialisation.
Model answer
Socialisation is the lifelong process of learning the norms, values and behaviour of a society. Sport is one setting where these are learned.
- 3
What is primary socialisation, and where does it happen?
Model answer
Primary socialisation takes place in early childhood, mainly within the family. Parents shape a child's first attitudes to physical activity.
- 4
What is secondary socialisation?
Model answer
Secondary socialisation happens later in childhood and throughout adult life. Peers, teachers, coaches, the media and the workplace shape values and behaviour.
- 5
How might primary socialisation make a child more likely to take up sport?
Model answer
Active parents act as role models and take their children to clubs. Parents who buy kit and praise effort build a positive attitude to sport.
- 6
Give an example of secondary socialisation affecting a teenager's participation.
Model answer
A teenager may join a netball club because friends already play. A PE teacher's encouragement can have the same effect.
