Which methods of guidance suit an autonomous performer?
Questions from this subtopic
Each one with the model answer underneath.
- 1
Which methods of guidance suit a performer in the cognitive stage?
Model answer
Visual guidance, supported by manual or mechanical guidance, suits a beginner best. Any verbal guidance should be short and simple.
- 2
Which methods of guidance suit an autonomous performer?
Model answer
Detailed verbal guidance suits an autonomous performer, who understands technical language. Video analysis of the performer's own technique is also useful.
- 3
How should guidance differ for an open skill compared with a closed skill?
Model answer
An open skill needs guidance that develops decision making, such as questioning during game-based practice. A closed skill suits guidance focused on repeating a consistent technique.
- 4
Why can too much feedback harm learning?
Model answer
Excess feedback overloads the learner's limited attention and short-term memory. The learner may also become dependent on the coach.
- 5
What makes feedback effective?
Model answer
Effective feedback is accurate, specific and given soon after the movement. Feedback should be limited to one or two key points at a time.
- 6
Why should a coach encourage a performer to use intrinsic feedback?
Model answer
Intrinsic feedback lets the performer detect and correct errors independently. The performer is then not reliant on a coach during competition.
