Questions from this subtopic
Each one with the model answer underneath.
- 1
What is feedback in skill learning?
Model answer
Feedback is information a performer receives about a movement, during or after it. The information is used to correct errors and reinforce correct actions.
- 2
State three purposes of feedback.
Model answer
The three purposes are motivating the performer, reinforcing correct actions and correcting errors.
- 3
Define knowledge of performance.
Model answer
Knowledge of performance is feedback about the quality and technique of the movement. A coach telling a sprinter that the knee lift was too low gives knowledge of performance.
- 4
Define knowledge of results.
Model answer
Knowledge of results is feedback about the outcome of the movement. A score, a time or a distance jumped are examples.
- 5
Why is knowledge of results important for a beginner?
Model answer
A beginner can see clearly whether the attempt achieved its goal. The outcome is easy to understand, and success is motivating.
- 6
Why does an expert benefit more from knowledge of performance?
Model answer
An expert usually achieves the result, so detail on technique is what brings further improvement. The expert can understand and act on technical feedback.
