Questions from this subtopic
Each one with the model answer underneath.
- 1
What is meant by transfer of skill?
Model answer
Transfer is the influence that learning or practising one skill has on the learning or performance of another.
- 2
What is positive transfer?
Model answer
Positive transfer occurs when learning one skill helps the learning or performance of another. An overarm throw learned in cricket helps a learner develop the javelin throw.
- 3
What is negative transfer?
Model answer
Negative transfer occurs when one skill hinders the learning or performance of another. A tennis player's firm wrist can hinder the flexible wrist action of a badminton shot.
- 4
What is zero transfer?
Model answer
Zero transfer occurs when one skill has no effect on another, because the two share no common elements. Learning breaststroke has no effect on a golf putt.
- 5
What is bilateral transfer?
Model answer
Bilateral transfer is the transfer of a skill from one limb to the other. A footballer who can kick well with the right foot finds learning with the left foot easier.
- 6
Define proactive transfer.
Model answer
Proactive transfer is the effect of a skill learned earlier on a skill learned later. A child's throwing skill from rounders influences learning to throw in from the outfield in cricket.
