Questions from this subtopic
Each one with the model answer underneath.
- 1
What is guidance in skill learning?
Model answer
Guidance is information given to a learner to help them learn or improve a skill. Guidance can be visual, verbal, manual or mechanical.
- 2
What is visual guidance?
Model answer
Visual guidance shows the learner what the skill looks like, through a demonstration or visual materials. Videos, posters, diagrams and markers on the floor are examples.
- 3
What makes a demonstration effective?
Model answer
A demonstration should be accurate, given by a credible model and seen clearly by every learner. The coach should highlight one or two key points and repeat the demonstration several times.
- 4
Evaluate visual guidance.
Model answer
Visual guidance suits beginners, who can copy a clear mental picture of the skill. A poor demonstration is copied too, and visual guidance cannot show how the movement feels.
- 5
Define direct verbal guidance.
Model answer
Direct verbal guidance tells the learner exactly what to do, such as keeping the head still over a putt. The instruction is explicit and specific.
- 6
Define indirect verbal guidance.
Model answer
Indirect verbal guidance leads the learner towards a solution through questions and hints rather than instructions. A coach might ask a batter where the weight should be at the moment of contact.
