Questions from this subtopic
Each one with the model answer underneath.
- 1
What is self-efficacy according to Bandura?
Model answer
Self-efficacy is a performer's belief that they can succeed in a specific situation. Bandura proposed the theory in 1977.
- 2
What are Bandura's four sources of self-efficacy?
Model answer
The four sources are past accomplishments, vicarious experiences, verbal persuasion and emotional arousal. Each source can raise or lower self-efficacy.
- 3
What are past accomplishments?
Model answer
Past accomplishments are previous successes the performer has had in the same or a similar task. Past accomplishments are the strongest source of self-efficacy.
- 4
Why are past accomplishments the most powerful source of self-efficacy?
Model answer
Past accomplishments give the performer direct evidence of their own ability. A performer who has succeeded before believes success can be repeated.
- 5
How can a coach use past accomplishments to raise self-efficacy?
Model answer
The coach can remind the performer of previous successes, for example with video. Easy progressions in training also let the performer experience success.
- 6
What are vicarious experiences?
Model answer
Vicarious experiences come from watching another performer succeed at the task. The observer gains belief that they can do it too.
