Carrying out and evaluating the activity
- 3 things to know
- A2 4
Overview
Delivering the activity and keeping it on plan, gathering evidence on the day, analysing the pre-test and post-test results, judging each objective against them, and writing recommendations that name a specific change.
What you need to know
Answer each one before you reveal it.
How should an activity be opened?
How is evidence of the activity gathered on the day?
Questions from this subtopic
Each one with the model answer underneath.
- 1
What should be done immediately before the activity is delivered?
Model answer
The venue and equipment are checked and set up, the materials are counted out, the pre-test is ready to be given, each person confirms their part, and the timing is checked against the plan.
- 2
How should an activity be opened?
Model answer
By introducing who is delivering it and why, saying what the session will cover and how long it will take, setting out how questions will be handled, and where the topic is sensitive, saying that anybody may step out.
- 3
How is the audience kept engaged during a session?
Model answer
By keeping any presentation short, changing activity every few minutes, asking questions rather than only telling, using something the audience does themselves, and pitching the language and examples at the group.
- 4
What should be done if the activity is not going to plan?
Model answer
Adapt rather than press on: cut a section if time is short, change to a discussion if the group will not engage with a presentation, and note afterwards what was changed and why, because that is evidence for the evaluation.
- 5
How should the activity be closed?
Model answer
By summarising the key message, restating the call to action and where to get help, giving out any take-away material, administering the post-test, and thanking the group and the setting.
- 6
How is evidence of the activity gathered on the day?
Model answer
By keeping the completed pre-tests and post-tests, the comment cards and observer forms, a note of how many attended, photographs of the display or materials where permission allows, and a written note of anything that departed from the plan.
