Questions from this subtopic
Each one with the model answer underneath.
- 1
Name the four physical needs a family is expected to meet for a vulnerable member.
Model answer
A family is expected to meet a vulnerable member's needs for warmth, clothing, food and shelter.
- 2
Who counts as a vulnerable member of a family?
Model answer
A vulnerable member of a family is anyone who cannot fully meet their own needs without support, including a person living with a serious illness or disease, a very young or very old person, a person with a mental illness and a person with a learning disability.
- 3
Give three ways a family meets the food needs of an older relative who can no longer cook.
Model answer
A family may shop for the older person, prepare and deliver cooked meals, and sit with them at mealtimes to encourage eating and check that enough food and fluid is taken.
- 4
Explain why keeping an older relative's home warm is treated as a care task rather than a household chore.
Model answer
Cold homes raise the risk of chest infections, falls and hypothermia in older people, so relatives who check heating, arrange fuel deliveries and apply for heating help are meeting a health need.
- 5
How might a family meet the shelter needs of a relative whose mobility has declined?
Model answer
A family may arrange a stair rail, a downstairs bed or a wet room, move the relative into their own home, or help apply through the Health and Social Care Trust for an occupational therapy assessment and adaptations.
- 6
Describe two ways a family supports the clothing needs of a person with a physical disability.
Model answer
A family may buy clothing that is easy to put on, such as garments with elasticated waists or fastenings at the front, and may take on the laundry and help the person dress in a way that protects their dignity.
