- 3 things to know
- A2 4
Overview
Talks, demonstrations, posters, leaflets, video and interactive activities, when each is the right choice, what makes each effective, and how materials are made readable and accessible for the intended group.
What you need to know
Answer each one before you reveal it.
What makes an effective leaflet?
When is a video clip worth the effort of making one?
Questions from this subtopic
Each one with the model answer underneath.
- 1
Name six delivery methods for a health promotion activity.
Model answer
A talk or presentation, a demonstration, a poster, a leaflet, a video clip, an interactive game or quiz, a display or stand, and a group discussion or workshop.
- 2
When is a talk the right method, and what are its limits?
Model answer
A talk suits conveying a set of information to a group at once and allows questions. Its limits are that it is passive, attention falls after a short time, and nothing remains afterwards unless something is handed out.
- 3
When is a demonstration the right method?
Model answer
A demonstration suits anything with a physical technique — hand washing, checking a mole, reading a food label, using an inhaler — because the audience sees it done and can then try it themselves.
- 4
What makes an effective poster?
Model answer
An effective poster has one message, a heading readable from a distance, an image that carries meaning rather than decorating, very little text, a clear call to action, and enough contrast to be readable by somebody with poor sight.
- 5
What makes an effective leaflet?
Model answer
An effective leaflet is short, written in plain language at a reading level suited to the audience, broken into headed sections, tells the reader what to do next, and says where to get help.
- 6
When is a video clip worth the effort of making one?
Model answer
A video is worth it where a story, an emotion or a technique carries the message better than words, where the audience is reached through screens, and where it can be short — a long clip loses the audience it was made for.
