- 3 things to know
- A2 Unit 4
Overview
Spear phishing, SQL injection and brute force login attack.
What you need to know
Answer each one before you reveal it.
What is SQL injection?
How is SQL injection prevented?
Questions from this subtopic
Each one with the model answer underneath.
- 1
What is phishing?
Model answer
Deceiving a user into revealing credentials or data by impersonating a trusted organisation, usually by email or message.
- 2
What is spear phishing?
Model answer
Phishing tailored to one individual using details about them, which makes it far harder to recognise.
- 3
Why is social engineering often combined with a technical attack?
Model answer
Persuading one person to open a file or hand over a credential supplies the access that the technical attack then exploits, which is cheaper than defeating the controls directly.
- 4
Why is social engineering effective against a well-defended system?
Model answer
It bypasses the technical controls entirely by persuading someone authorised to act on the attacker's behalf.
- 5
What does a denial of service attack achieve, given that it steals nothing?
Model answer
It makes a service unavailable, which costs the owner revenue and reputation and can be used as extortion or as cover for another attack.
- 6
What makes a distributed denial of service attack harder to stop?
Model answer
The traffic comes from many compromised machines at once, so it cannot be blocked by refusing one source.
Other ways to work this
The same content, four other ways.
What is inside Levo
Six ways to work the same material.
Every question in Data Security, Cryptography and Attack, on a schedule.
Attempt a question from memory, write the correct version, then attempt it again. Levo records the jump between your first attempt and your last, and brings each question back on the day you are due to forget it.
