XOR, NAND and NOR truth tables
- 3 things to know
- Component 1
Overview
Output of an XOR operation, output of a NAND operation and output of a NOR operation.
What you need to know
Answer each one before you reveal it.
Describe the output of a NAND operation.
Describe the output of a NOR operation.
Questions from this subtopic
Each one with the model answer underneath.
- 1
Describe the output of an XOR operation.
Model answer
An XOR operation gives 1 when the two inputs are different. Two equal inputs give an output of 0.
- 2
Describe the output of a NAND operation.
Model answer
A NAND operation produces the inverse of AND. The output is 0 only when both inputs are 1.
- 3
Describe the output of a NOR operation.
Model answer
A NOR operation produces the inverse of OR. The output is 1 only when both inputs are 0.
- 4
Give the XOR truth table in words.
Model answer
The XOR outputs are 0, 1, 1 and 0 for the input pairs 00, 01, 10 and 11. Equal inputs give 0 and different inputs give 1.
- 5
Give the NAND truth table in words.
Model answer
The NAND outputs are 1, 1, 1 and 0 for the input pairs 00, 01, 10 and 11. Only two inputs of 1 give an output of 0.
- 6
Give the NOR truth table in words.
Model answer
The NOR outputs are 1, 0, 0 and 0 for the input pairs 00, 01, 10 and 11. Only two inputs of 0 give an output of 1.

What is inside Levo
Six ways to work the same material.
Every question in Boolean Logic and Simplification, on a schedule.
Attempt a question from memory, write the correct version, then attempt it again. Levo records the jump between your first attempt and your last, and brings each question back on the day you are due to forget it.
