Questions from this subtopic

Each one with the model answer underneath.

  1. 1

How does an object-oriented approach organise a program?

    Model answer

An object-oriented program models a system as a set of interacting objects. Each object holds its own data and the operations that act on that data.

  2. 2

    Define the term class.

    Model answer

A class is a template that defines the attributes and methods shared by a group of objects. Storage is allocated only when an object is created from the class.

  3. 3

    Define the term object.

    Model answer

An object is a single instance of a class with its own values for the attributes. Many objects can be created from one class.

  4. 4

    Define the term method.

    Model answer

A method is a subroutine defined inside a class that acts on an object of that class. Calling a method is how other code asks an object to do something.

  5. 5

Explain the relationship between object, class and method.

    Model answer

A class defines the methods, and an object is a particular instance of that class. A method is invoked on an object and normally works on that object's own data.

  6. 6

What is an attribute of a class?

    Model answer

An attribute is a data item that every object of the class holds a value for. A Book class might have attributes for title, author and ISBN.
