Overview
Unit testing, test harness and stub in testing.
What you need to know
Answer each one before you reveal it.
Who normally carries out unit testing?
What is a stub in testing?
Questions from this subtopic
Each one with the model answer underneath.
- 1
What is unit testing?
Model answer
Unit testing checks a single module or routine on its own, to confirm that it produces the correct output for the inputs it is given.
- 2
Who normally carries out unit testing?
Model answer
Unit testing is normally carried out by the programmer who wrote the module, immediately after writing it.
- 3
What is a test harness?
Model answer
A test harness is the extra code written to run a module in isolation, supplying it with inputs and recording what it returns.
- 4
What is a stub in testing?
Model answer
A stub is a simple stand-in for a module that has not yet been written, returning a fixed value so that the module calling it can be tested now.
- 5
What is a driver in testing?
Model answer
A driver is a small program written to call a module and pass it test data, used when the module that would normally call it does not yet exist.
- 6
What is integration testing?
Model answer
Integration testing checks that modules already proved separately work correctly together, concentrating on the data passed between them.
