Questions from this subtopic

Each one with the model answer underneath.

  1. 1

    What is system testing?

    Model answer

System testing tests the complete, integrated system against the requirements specification, to confirm that it does everything it was built to do.

  2. 2

Who normally carries out system testing?

    Model answer

System testing is carried out by the development organisation, usually by testers who did not write the code.

  3. 3

Why is system testing carried out by testers rather than by the programmers?

    Model answer

Independent testers work from the requirements rather than from what the code was written to do, so they test what the system should do instead of confirming what it does.

  4. 4

Why should the testing environment resemble the live one?

    Model answer

Software can behave differently on the real hardware, network and volume of data, so testing on a close copy of the live environment exposes problems that a developer's own machine hides.

  5. 5

    What is performance testing?

    Model answer

Performance testing measures how quickly the system responds and how much work it can process, and compares the measurements with the response times required of it.

  6. 6

    What is volume testing?

    Model answer

Volume testing runs the system with the quantity of data it will hold in real use, to confirm that storage, searching and reporting still work acceptably at that size.

Blank Blitz makes facts automatic

Rapid timed gap-fills on the terms and numbers you need to recall without thinking.

ANormal data is 12, which should be accepted.
BBoundary data is 1 and 50, which should be accepted.
C0 and 51, just outside the limits, should be rejected.
