Storyboarding the user interface
- 3 things to know
- AS Unit 1
Overview
Storyboard in interface design, drawn in a single storyboard frame and low-fidelity storyboard.
What you need to know
Answer each one before you reveal it.
How does a storyboard show navigation?
What is a low-fidelity storyboard?
Questions from this subtopic
Each one with the model answer underneath.
- 1
What is a storyboard in interface design?
Model answer
A storyboard is a sequence of sketches of the screens a system will show, drawn in the order the user will meet them, with the links between them marked.
- 2
What is drawn in a single storyboard frame?
Model answer
A single frame shows the layout of one screen: the position of its headings, text, images, input boxes, buttons and navigation.
- 3
How does a storyboard show navigation?
Model answer
Arrows or labelled links are drawn from a button or hotspot on one frame to the frame it leads to, so the whole route through the system can be followed.
- 4
Give two advantages of storyboarding before any code is written.
Model answer
A storyboard is quick to draw and cheap to change, and it lets users see and comment on the whole structure of the interface before development time is spent on it.
- 5
What is a low-fidelity storyboard?
Model answer
A low-fidelity storyboard is a rough sketch showing only the position and purpose of each element, and roughness is deliberate so that reviewers comment on structure rather than on colours and fonts.
- 6
What is a high-fidelity storyboard?
Model answer
A high-fidelity storyboard shows each screen close to its finished appearance, with the intended colours, fonts and images, so the final look can be agreed.
