Overview
User requirements specification and traceability reference.
What you need to know
Answer each one before you reveal it.
Which sections would you expect a user requirements specification to contain?
Why is the requirements document agreed and signed by the user before design begins?
Questions from this subtopic
Each one with the model answer underneath.
- 1
Define a user requirements specification.
Model answer
A user requirements specification is the agreed document setting out everything the solution must do and every quality it must have.
- 2
Which sections would you expect a user requirements specification to contain?
Model answer
The document contains the background to the problem, the scope, the functional requirements, the non-functional requirements, the software and hardware needed, and the constraints.
- 3
Why is the requirements document agreed and signed by the user before design begins?
Model answer
Agreement fixes what is being built, so both the design and the later evaluation have a stated target.
- 4
How is a large set of requirements presented clearly?
Model answer
The requirements are grouped by area of the business, numbered within each group, and each stated in a single sentence.
- 5
Define a traceability reference.
Model answer
A traceability reference is the requirement number carried into the design, the tests and the evaluation so each can be traced back.
- 6
Why does the requirements document state what is out of scope?
Model answer
Writing down what is excluded prevents a later dispute about work the user assumed was included.
