Documenting test outcomes as evidence
- 3 things to know
- A2 Unit 2
Overview
Test log, what is recorded for a test that passes and evidence that should accompany a documented test outcome.
What you need to know
Answer each one before you reveal it.
Define a test log.
State what is recorded for a test that passes.
Questions from this subtopic
Each one with the model answer underneath.
- 1
Define a test log.
Model answer
A test log is the record of every test run, giving the date, the data used, the actual result and the pass or fail decision.
- 2
State what is recorded for a test that passes.
Model answer
The test number, the data used, the expected result, the actual result and the evidence that the two matched are all recorded.
- 3
Why is the actual result recorded even when it equals the expected result?
Model answer
The record is the evidence that the test was really run, and a plan with no actual results proves nothing.
- 4
Describe the evidence that should accompany a documented test outcome.
Model answer
A screen capture or a printed output showing the result, annotated with the test number, should accompany the outcome.
- 5
Why is a screen capture annotated rather than left bare?
Model answer
An unannotated capture does not say which test it belongs to or what the reader is meant to be looking at.
- 6
How is a failed test documented?
Model answer
A failed test records what actually happened, how that differs from the expected result, and the fault raised from it.
