Designing, Testing and Evaluating an Event Driven Application
Designing a test strategy for an event driven application
- 3 things to know
- AS Unit 2
Overview
Test strategy, test that follows one complete user journey called and regression testing.
What you need to know
Answer each one before you reveal it.
Why is an event driven application harder to test than a program that runs one fixed sequence?
Why should the code behind a button be written as a separate method?
Questions from this subtopic
Each one with the model answer underneath.
- 1
What is a test strategy?
Model answer
A test strategy is the plan for how an application will be tested, setting out what will be tested, in what order and against what standard.
- 2
Why is an event driven application harder to test than a program that runs one fixed sequence?
Model answer
A user can operate the controls in any order, so the number of routes through the interface is far larger than a single path from start to end.
- 3
What does it mean to test a control in isolation?
Model answer
Testing a control in isolation exercises one button or one field on its own, confirming it does its own job before any combination is tried.
- 4
Why should the code behind a button be written as a separate method?
Model answer
A separate method is called directly from a test without a click, so the processing is checked without driving the interface at all.
- 5
What can a click do that a direct call to the same method cannot?
Model answer
A click also exercises the registration of the handler, the enabled state of the control, and the reading of values out of the form's own boxes.
- 6
What is a test that follows one complete user journey called, and what does it check?
Model answer
A journey through the screens is an end to end test, and it checks that the forms hand data to one another correctly from start to finish.
