Designing, Testing and Evaluating an Event Driven Application
Evaluating an application against its requirements
- 3 things to know
- AS Unit 2
Overview
Difference between testing and evaluating and end user's role in evaluation.
What you need to know
Answer each one before you reveal it.
What is the difference between testing and evaluating?
How is an evaluation against requirements organised?
Questions from this subtopic
Each one with the model answer underneath.
- 1
What does it mean to evaluate an application?
Model answer
Evaluating an application means judging how well the finished product meets what was agreed, and saying where it falls short.
- 2
What is the difference between testing and evaluating?
Model answer
Testing asks whether the application does what it was built to do, while evaluating asks whether what it does is what the user actually needed.
- 3
How is an evaluation against requirements organised?
Model answer
Each requirement is taken in turn, and the evaluation states whether it was met in full, met in part or not met, with the evidence for that judgement.
- 4
Why must an evaluation refer back to the requirements agreed at the start?
Model answer
Judging against the original agreement keeps the evaluation objective and prevents a developer marking their own work against whatever was easy to build.
- 5
What evidence supports a claim that a requirement was met?
Model answer
The evidence is the test that exercised the requirement together with its result and the screen capture showing the outcome.
- 6
A requirement was met but in a different way from the one designed. How should that be reported?
Model answer
The evaluation should state that the need was satisfied, then explain the change of approach and why the original design was abandoned.
