- 1
What does the Church teach about the role of Catholics as peacemakers?
Model answer
The Church teaches that every Catholic is called to build peace in their family, community and world. Peace begins with a converted heart and loving actions.
- 2
What does Matthew 5:9 teach about peacemakers?
Model answer
Jesus says, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God”. Peacemakers share in God's own work.
- 3
What are the Beatitudes in Matthew 5:1–12?
Model answer
The Beatitudes are the blessings Jesus gives to the poor in spirit, the meek, the merciful and the persecuted. The Beatitudes turn worldly values upside down.
- 4
What does Matthew 5:13–16 teach about salt and light?
Model answer
Jesus calls his followers the salt of the earth and the light of the world. Christians must make a visible difference, including by working for peace.
- 5
Why is justice important in Catholic peacemaking?
Model answer
Injustice such as poverty and oppression causes resentment and conflict. Lasting peace is impossible unless people are treated fairly.
- 6
Why is forgiveness important in Catholic peacemaking?
Model answer
Forgiveness breaks the cycle of revenge that keeps conflicts going. Former enemies cannot live together unless past wrongs are forgiven.
