What you need to know
Answer each one before you reveal it.
What does Genesis 2 teach about the creation of the first humans?
What does creation ex nihilo mean?
Questions from this subtopic
Each one with the model answer underneath.
- 1
What does Genesis 1 teach about how God created the universe?
Model answer
Genesis 1 describes God creating everything by speaking it into being over six days. God rested on the seventh day and saw that creation was good.
- 2
What does Genesis 2 teach about the creation of the first humans?
Model answer
God formed Adam from the dust of the ground and breathed life into him. God then made Eve from Adam's side to be his partner.
- 3
What does creation ex nihilo mean?
Model answer
Creation ex nihilo means creation out of nothing. Christians believe only God existed before God made the universe.
- 4
How do literalist Christians understand the creation accounts in Genesis?
Model answer
Literalist Christians believe Genesis describes creation exactly as it happened. Many of these creationists hold that the world was made in six 24-hour days.
- 5
How do many Christians read Genesis 1–3 if not literally?
Model answer
Many Christians read Genesis 1–3 as a metaphorical or symbolic story. The story teaches spiritual truths rather than scientific facts.
- 6
What spiritual truths do Christians who read Genesis metaphorically take from it?
Model answer
God is the source of everything that exists. Creation is good, ordered and has a purpose.
