Questions from this subtopic
Each one with the model answer underneath.
- 1
What does gurmukh mean?
Model answer
A gurmukh is a God-centred person who follows the Guru's teaching. The gurmukh's life is directed towards God rather than self.
- 2
What does manmukh mean?
Model answer
A manmukh is a self-centred person led by their own mind and desires. The manmukh ignores the Guru and lives for selfish ends.
- 3
What is haumai?
Model answer
Haumai is ego or self-centred pride. Haumai makes a person feel separate from God and from other people.
- 4
Why is haumai seen as the main barrier to God?
Model answer
Haumai puts the self at the centre instead of God. A person ruled by ego cannot recognise God's presence within.
- 5
What does Ang 125 teach about the gurmukh?
Model answer
Ang 125 teaches that gurmukhs remove selfishness and conceit from within. Gurmukhs are honoured in God's court and are not consumed by death.
- 6
What does Ang 226 teach about haumai?
Model answer
Ang 226 teaches that God is not found through actions done in ego. When ego departs, the highest spiritual state is reached.
