Questions from this subtopic
Each one with the model answer underneath.
- 1
What is social justice?
Model answer
Social justice is fairness in how wealth, opportunities and privileges are shared in society. Everyone should have the chance to flourish.
- 2
How is wealth distributed in the world?
Model answer
A small share of the world's population owns most of its wealth. Many people live in extreme poverty.
- 3
How is opportunity unequally distributed in the UK?
Model answer
Children from poorer families often have fewer chances in education and work. Where a person is born affects their health and income.
- 4
How does the Parable of the Sheep and the Goats teach social justice?
Model answer
Jesus identifies himself with the hungry, the stranger and the prisoner. Neglecting them is neglecting Christ, so society must meet their needs.
- 5
How have Christian attitudes to wealth distribution developed through history?
Model answer
The early Church shared possessions, and monasteries cared for the poor. Modern Churches campaign for fairer systems as well as giving charity.
- 6
How does the Church work for social justice today?
Model answer
Churches campaign for a living wage, fair trade and fair tax. Churches also run food banks and debt advice services.
